Hello My Name Is...

Wenda Wilson

Welcome to the 2021-22 Year!

Hello Families!

Welcome to the 2021-22 school year! I hope you all enjoyed many happy adventures during the summer and I can’t wait to hear about them when the students return to school! Your student should feel welcome to bring his or her supplies to the Meet and Greet on Friday, August 6 from 1-3 p.m. If your family is not able to attend the Meet and Greet, your student is welcome to bring his or her supplies on the first day of school, Monday, August 9 and time will be given for unpacking them.

I will be in our classroom on the lower level of TTE on Friday, August 6 to meet you and help you get your supplies settled. If you have any questions that I can answer for you before then, you are welcome to send them to me ahead of time. Thank you for your time!

This is my third year teaching second grade at TTE, and I am thrilled to be here! I have been teaching second grade for 10 years, with most of my years spent teaching in our previous home community in Jeffco. I also taught first grade in Commerce City  for 3.5 years.

Originally, I am from the South Bend Area of northern Indiana.  My husband and I settled in Lakewood, CO in 1990, after attending college at Hanover College in southern Indiana, and we raised our family there. In the spring of 2019, we sold our home and moved to Castle Rock due to Mr. Wilson’s office locations in Lone Tree and Colorado Springs (he is a financial planner). We built a house south of Castle Rock and moved in last November. We have two grown sons; one who is 28 years old and works in the financial services industry (he graduated from Fort Lewis College in Durango) and one who is 23 and attends the CU School of Engineering for Chemical Engineering (in his final year).

We have two dogs-a black Pug and a Puggle. We regularly visit our property in Ouray, CO on weekends, summers, and during snowshoe trips in the winter. Our camper/toy hauler is there full time so we just go back and forth to enjoy the mountains! We spent MANY awesome days there this summer hiking, motorcycle riding, and relaxing! I am interested in hearing about your families, as well, and what activities you love to do together.

Our classroom will be filled with the sounds of meaningful learning! Students will learn from and with each other and many collaborative activities and tasks will be done in small groups. Combined with independent work, students will become immersed in the welcoming environment we will be creating together in our classroom. Students will be problem-solvers, creators, thinkers, and question-developers. We have certainly all learned from the challenge of the last year and a half to be innovative in ways that allow us to continue meaningful learning with and from each other, as well as keeping safety in mind for all students and staff. Thank you for accepting that challenge as well, and I look forward to a positive and productive partnership with you!

The quickest way to reach me is through my district email: wwilson@dcsdk12.org. If you have the chance to send me an introduction of your student and your family before your student attends school on August 9, I would love to read it. Students are welcome to bring pictures of summer travel and adventures to school to begin the year and if you have any pictures you want to send digitally, I am happy to have students share them from our screen as they are projected from your email.

It will be helpful if your student has his or her own earbuds or headphones to leave at school. The headphones do not need to be wireless or expensive and earbuds work just fine. We have some headphones available, but most students are more comfortable with ones they bring from home since each student will have a Chromebook to use at school all year. We have a dedicated space in class where students can keep them safe. Thank you!

We offer a quick snack time in the morning and afternoon in our classroom. Your student is welcome to bring two healthy snacks per day. Thank you for being mindful of our students who have peanut allergies.

Yoda, from Star Wars, is our class mascot and it will be fun for the students to learn about him and about all things Star Wars this year too! For now, I will say, “May the Force be with you!”

I am looking forward to having a very positive year and to getting started! The team at TTE is awesome to work with and I feel lucky and blessed to be a part of it! Until I see you, enjoy the last days of summer break!
